The Department of Homeland Security published notice on Oct. 20 of an order excluding products and services from DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence and its affiliates from federal civilian procurements. The order also requires agencies to remove DeepSeek products, including third-party products built on DeepSeek, from their systems. Both requirements took effect immediately when the order was issued on July 24. The order exempts national security systems and sensitive compartmented information systems, and executive agencies may request exceptions.
