The Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute on Wednesday informed the parents of six students rusticated for allegedly manhandling and heckling vice-chancellor Santosh Ajmera that their wards had yet to vacate the campus.
In emails to the parents, the institute’s tutorial section urged them to ensure that their wards complied with the rustication orders issued on October 14 and vacated their hostels.
Ajmera had earlier said that while all students had been asked to vacate the hostels following the suspension of academic activities till November 13, the six rusticated students had to leave the campus immediately and would not be allowed to return.
“Since the six students declined to comply with the directions on their own, their parents have been notified,” an SRFTI official said.
The email sent to a parent said: “This is to inform you that disciplinary action has been taken against your ward... A copy of the rustication order issued in respect of your ward is attached herewith for your information and record.”
“The parents/guardians of all six students have been informed by email, and the proctor has also contacted them by phone,” Ajmera told Metro.
“Continuing to occupy the premises despite the directions to vacate would amount to unauthorised occupation. The administration remains committed to student welfare while ensuring compliance with institutional directions and the orderly functioning of the campus,” he said.
One of the rusticated students called the order to leave the campus unfair. The students were boycotting classes to protest the attacks allegedly carried out by RSS-linked organisations on September 27 and October 4.
“It has been nearly a month since the first attack, but the SRFTI administration has failed to deliver justice. We never heckled the VC while staging a peaceful protest,” the student said, adding that the rustication orders were based on “unsubstantiated charges”.
