PETALING JAYA: Bersatu has been accused of engineering Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) deregistration after losing its leadership positions, allegedly to pave the way for an alliance with Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Wawasan leader Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal accused Bersatu of betraying its coalition partner PAS by lodging the complaint that led to PN’s deregistration today.
“People know the real cause was Bersatu’s complaint after its leaders were democratically removed from their positions in PN,” the Machang MP said in a statement.
He accused Bersatu’s leaders of shedding crocodile tears over the decision, alleging they pursued a “scorched-earth” strategy to bring down the coalition rather than surrender control to PAS.
Wan Fayhsal pointed to negotiations between Bersatu and the PH-led Selangor government over a confidence and supply agreement as evidence of an emerging political realignment.
Earlier today, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said he would review the state government’s planned cooperation with Bersatu following PN’s deregistration, but insisted the arrangement would be with Bersatu and not PN.
Wan Fayhsal claimed similar cooperation was being explored in Melaka.
He also questioned the timing of the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) decision to cancel PN’s registration, which came two days before a court hearing on an application to stay the coalition’s suspension.
"Why such a rush that they could not even wait another two days?" he asked.
Wan Fayhsal accused RoS of double standards, claiming it ignored complaints over Bersatu’s internal disputes but acted swiftly when the party complained about PN.
He also accused the Madani government of using administrative powers to weaken political opponents ahead of the Melaka state election and GE16.
He, however, did not address Bersatu’s claim that it was excluded from PN’s Supreme Council meeting on July 16.
Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali had earlier accused the PAS-led PN leadership of breaching the coalition's constitution by denying Bersatu the right to attend, speak and vote at the meeting.
Azmin maintained that Bersatu’s complaint to RoS was intended to ensure PN complied with its constitution.
