ACT Chief Police Officer, Deputy Commissioner Scott Lee told the ABC that a driver, a 23-year-old man, stopped to confront the group after his vehicle was hit by one of the objects thrown.
Deputy Commissioner Lee said the driver was allegedly stabbed multiple times by the group. The man left the scene, and was later taken to hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Lee said he is in a stable condition, and that police are investigating the incident.
"Our thoughts and prayers go to him and his family," he said.
He said police had received multiple calls about the people seen throwing items at vehicles, and the members of the group remain outstanding.
"There were multiple objects thrown at a number of vehicles ... from this same group of four young people," Deputy Commissioner Lee told Ross Solly on ABC.
"For anyone who has information in relation to these people we would ask you to come forward and talk to police as a matter of priority."
More to come.
