Rookie coach Mike LaFleur’s Arizona Cardinals are 1-4 on the season and ailing badly as Jeremiyah Love was ruled out for Week 6’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Cardinals defensive coordinator Nick Rallis made a tough admission ahead of the game with his Budda Baker-led defense staring down the barrel of another potential beatdown.
Baker, an eight-time Pro Bowl safety, led Rallis’ unit with 11 tackles and a sack against the Lions, one of the few bright spots on a drab day at State Farm Stadium Glendale, Arizona. NFL insider Ari Meirov revealed recently that Baker could be on the move to another team based on what he’s hearing in the rumor mill.
“If I gave you a percentage chance of Budda Baker getting traded, who has no guaranteed money, what would you say?” Meirov asked to co-host Johnny Venerable, who said he thinks Baker’s “time is up” with LaFleur’s Cardinals.

“I think the Cardinals will give him an option, like, ‘Hey, the Chicago Bears…I’m just throwin’ a team out there, want you to come play for their team, or Minnesota…Do you want to go?’ And if he says yes, then you move him.”
Meirov compared the possible scenario to Kevin Byard’s trade from the Tennessee Titans, saying they gave him the option to be moved ahead of November 10’s NFL trade deadline.
Baker was selected by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft but his current team is looking far from a contender after five games and only one win. The offense has sputtered, receiving little in return after its long-term signing of receiver Michael Wilson, who was crushed by the team’s trade of Marvin Harrison Jr. to the Texans.
The Cardinals might be weeks away from having a fire sale, and Baker’s name could be included on the list of players finding new homes soon. Baker has played admirably for the Cardinals, but it may be time to move on based on the current circumstances.
