Fabio Capello has questioned why Juventus are not crossing the ball more frequently when they have a tall striker like Nick Woltemade leading their attack. The German forward joined the Juve on loan from Newcastle United in the last transfer window, and Capello believes the Bianconeri should make better use of his physical qualities.
Woltemade’s height gives him an advantage in aerial duels, making him a useful target for crosses into the penalty area. However, Juventus have not consistently supplied him in that way, despite having a striker who could benefit from deliveries from wide areas.
The problem is that the Bianconeri lack a natural winger who regularly looks to cross. Many of their wide players prefer to cut inside and shoot, limiting the number of opportunities Woltemade gets to use his height and heading ability.
Capello questions Juventus’ approach
This approach could leave Juventus failing to exploit one of their striker’s potential strengths. If they choose not to deliver crosses regularly, they will need to find other ways to create chances and get goals from Woltemade.
Interestingly, his heading ability was not among the main attributes highlighted when Juventus pursued his signing. The focus was instead on his ability to hold up the ball, occupy defenders and provide a focal point for the attack.
Those qualities remain valuable, but Capello believes Juventus should vary their approach and make better use of the options available to them in the final third.

Woltemade needs better service
Speaking via Tuttomercatoweb, Capello explained why he believes the striker needs more movement and support around him.
“I saw a striker who can fit there, but he needs a player around who moves. He can hold the ball, he can be a point of reference. I don’t understand why they’ve never crossed, with someone so big in front… The ball doesn’t just have to head it, it can also hit him.”
Capello’s comments underline his view that Juventus should adapt their attacking play to suit Woltemade’s strengths. Crosses would give the forward more opportunities to compete in the air, while movement around him could create additional openings.
Juventus must decide how best to use their summer signing. If they can improve the service into the box while maintaining other attacking options, Woltemade could become a more effective focal point for their forward line.
