Whether helping a homeless man find shelter, supporting street children or facilitating medical assistance for an accident survivor, the former Nairobi County chief officer repeatedly used his resources and public platform to help people facing difficult circumstances.
Mosiria's Rise to Fame
Mosiria's humanitarian activities attracted public attention because they often went beyond the routine duties associated with his former position at City Hall.
His interventions brought him into contact with people experiencing homelessness, mental health struggles, disability and extreme poverty.
Although Governor Johnson Sakaja later dismissed him, Mosiria's widely reported acts of kindness remain part of his public profile.
TUKO.co.ke shares five notable instances in which he stepped in to help vulnerable Kenyans.
1. Man Living in Tree Along Jogoo Road
One of Mosiria's most striking interventions involved a homeless man identified as Ras, who had constructed a makeshift shelter high up in a tree along Jogoo Road.
The unusual living arrangement drew attention to the man's difficult circumstances, with his elevated shelter exposing him to potential danger.
After learning about his situation, Mosiria reportedly tracked him down and helped him leave the tree.
He subsequently arranged an apartment for Ras, paying three months' rent upfront to give him somewhere safe to stay.
Mosiria also provided him with a smartphone, more than KSh 50,000 and a new handcart to help him start a small business.
The assistance was intended to do more than provide temporary relief. By giving Ras both accommodation and equipment to earn a living, Mosiria sought to help him establish a more stable life.
The intervention stood out because it combined immediate shelter with an attempt to create a pathway towards financial independence.
2. Martha Njoki and Chambe
Mosiria also attracted attention for interventions involving people who had spent time living on the streets.
One of them was Martha Njoki, a woman whose struggles reportedly included severe depression and substance abuse.
Mosiria helped get her off the streets and arranged rehabilitation, financing her recovery in a transformation that was documented on social media.
Another case involved a homeless man known as Chambe, who was reportedly found outside the Railways Golf Club.
Mosiria helped him secure accommodation in Kawangware and provided basic necessities as he worked towards regaining stability.
The intervention reportedly had a longer-term impact. Chambe reunited with his family after 15 years apart and subsequently secured employment as a security officer.
His experience illustrated how assistance with basic needs can provide a starting point for people seeking to reconnect with their families and return to work.
While the circumstances of Martha and Chambe differed, both cases highlighted the importance of support that extends beyond simply removing someone from the streets.
3. Funded Prosthetic Leg for Accident Survivor
Another reported act of kindness involved a young woman who had lost her leg in an accident.
Mosiria reportedly stepped in to fund and provide her with a prosthetic leg, helping her regain mobility and work towards greater independence.
For someone who has lost a limb, access to a suitable prosthesis can be an important step towards navigating daily life with greater confidence.
The intervention also demonstrated a different dimension of Mosiria's humanitarian activities: assisting an individual facing a physical disability rather than focusing exclusively on homelessness.
4. Dedicated Part of His Salary For Street Children
Mosiria has also spoken publicly about supporting vulnerable children in Nairobi. He committed 10% of his monthly salary to initiatives aimed at rescuing, supporting and educating children living on the streets.
The commitment reflected an approach that sought to address children's immediate needs while also supporting their longer-term welfare.
In another widely shared intervention, Mosiria reportedly used his personal funds to organise a meal for 563 vulnerable children in Kibra.
The children were treated to pizza and soda, giving them an opportunity to enjoy a meal that, according to accounts of the event, was unfamiliar to some of them.
While providing food was the immediate objective, the gathering also offered the children an experience centred on inclusion and enjoyment.
5. Helped Elderly Woman Living on Streets
Mosiria's reported interventions also included an elderly Indian-Kenyan woman who had spent decades living on the streets of Nairobi.
According to accounts shared about the encounter, the woman had lived on the streets for 38 years and was reportedly experiencing serious diabetic foot complications when Mosiria encountered her in the Nairobi central business district.
Her circumstances were particularly concerning because she needed medical attention while also facing the challenges associated with prolonged homelessness.
Mosiria arranged for her to receive immediate medical care and initiated efforts to trace her relatives and reconnect her with her family.
Mosiria's Humanitarian Profile Beyond City Hall
Across these five cases, Mosiria's interventions ranged from providing shelter and livelihood equipment to funding rehabilitation, supporting children and facilitating medical assistance.
The cases differed in their circumstances, but they shared a common feature: direct intervention in the lives of people experiencing hardship.
His approach often involved using personal resources and his public platform to draw attention to individual cases and mobilise assistance.
However, the long-term outcomes of such interventions depend on several factors, including continued access to housing, healthcare, family support and sustainable sources of income.
Mosiria Fired by Sakaja
Mosiria's departure from City Hall marked a painful exit, but the humanitarian activities associated with his public profile remain a significant part of his story.
For the people involved, the reported interventions offered assistance at moments when they were facing difficult circumstances.
For the wider public, they highlighted the difference that timely, practical support can make in the lives of vulnerable people.
