GEORGE TOWN: Residents ordered to evacuate their homes following a landslide in Taman Seri Rambai, Paya Terubong, are uncertain about temporary accommodation, with some unsure where to turn next.
Resident Jenny Toh, in her 50s, said she was told they could stay at a hotel and claim the cost later, but was unclear about the arrangements and who would cover the expenses.
"Everyone doesn't know where to go," she said, adding that her household had been told to leave the premises.
Toh said 10 family members, including children and grandchildren, were part of the household.
She said she returned home this morning after being alerted by her family and neighbours about the incident.
Toh said floodwater had entered the back part of her house, raising concerns about its safety.
She said residents had complained several times about excavation work on the land behind their homes.
She said residents could no longer remain in their homes following the evacuation order, leaving them to collect their belongings and find somewhere to stay.
Toh said the uncertainty was particularly worrying for families who had nowhere readily available to relocate to.
The landslide claimed the life of Dr Wong Kar Lin, 73, who was found partially buried after a wall of his house collapsed on him.
