What’s the Point of Having a Great Defence and Midfield If Some Arsenal Fans Don’t Appreciate Them?
I’ve been reading how managers, the media and pundits recognise the undoubted strength of our defence and midfield.
For example, naming Konsa and Gabriel as the best CB pairing in Europe at the moment. That’s after the same people said Saliba and Gabriel were the best before the former was injured.
Then we have four full-backs in White, Timber, Calafiori and Hincapie who should also be spoken about and regarded in the same way.
Finally, one of the finest keepers in the world at present in Raya, a controversial signing who has proven to be one of Mikel Arteta’s best yet.
Why wouldn’t any club rely heavily on such a fantastic array of top defensive players? And let’s not forget Mosquera, one of the best cover options for the back four out there and another excellent signing.
Why Arsenal Should Play to Their Strengths
Then take our midfield players: Rice, Bruno, Skelly, Zubimendi, Odegaard, Merino, Eze, all top international players who can play both defensive and attacking roles.
So it makes complete sense to utilise these brilliant players in order to maintain possession of the ball while probing for opportunities to breach opponents’ defences.
We have weakened our attacking options by selling Martinelli and Trossard while replacing them with an untried PL player who’s currently injured!!
So of course we will not be able to play the type of football we did in previous seasons.
What we can and are currently doing is playing to our strengths, waiting patiently for the openings and taking the opportunities when they arrive.

Keep Winning Until the Attack Finds Its Form
Come January, we need to be in the position that will attract attacking players of top quality, and our brilliant defence and midfield will help do that.
Let’s hope by then that Saka and the rest of our forwards have found their top form in a consistent way. Until then, keep winning is the order of the day and, apart from Brighton, that’s what we are doing.

Should Arsenal fans appreciate the results Arteta is getting from this defence and midfield, or are supporters right to demand more attacking football despite the team’s success?
