The Chicago Bulls began the new season North of the border against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday. It also marked the official debut of No. 4 pick Caleb Wilson, slated to be the franchise player.
Though the rebuilding Bulls were largely outmatched, that didn’t mean that Wilson didn’t have something up his sleeve. That was certainly true late in the 2nd quarter, when Wilson threw it down with authority for his first NBA dunk. With under 2 minutes to play, Wilson got a good feed from the cutting Norman Powell, who was double-teamed going to the hoop. Wilson was left open and slammed it with two hands.
It was surely something that excited Bulls fans, given the magnitude of the expectations facing Wilson.

After 6 seasons of stagnation, the Bulls went all in this offseason. First, they hired Bryson Graham to lead the front office. Then, they hired Tiago Splitter as the head coach. In between, the Bulls drafted Wilson out of the University of North Carolina.
Given Wilson’s pedigree for size, length, athleticism, and physicality, he represents the hope for the dawn of a new day. Already, Wilson has shown flashes of potential in the tune-up to the season. In the NBA Summer League, Wilson made the All-Summer League First Team, averaging 23.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game.
In the preseason, Wilson averaged 15.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. Additionally, he shot 44.1% from the field and 31% from the 3-point line.
As this story is being published, the Bulls trail 103-71 to the Raptors after 3 quarters. Overall, Wilson has 10 points and 6 turnovers.
