Vincent Kompany’s collapse on Friday has prompted a heartfelt message from Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac, who expressed his support for the Bayern Munich boss on Saturday.
“Like all football fans, I wish him nothing but the best. I hope he recovers quickly and returns to the touchline soon. What matters most at this stage is giving him peace and quiet, because he needs time,” Kovac told Sky.
“We all know how demanding a coaching job can be, so I genuinely wish him all the very best,” he added.
Kompany collapsed during a training session with Bayern’s reserve team on Friday and was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl confirmed on Saturday that Kompany remains under medical supervision and will be unavailable for the coming weeks.
As a result, the Belgian is highly unlikely to be in the dugout when Bayern Munich face Borussia Dortmund next Saturday.
“I hope we can at least speak to each other again sometime next week,” Kovac said.
