The governor stated this while speaking with newsmen after the wreath- laying ceremony and memorial service held in honour of his late mother, Mrs. Abigail Omojolagbe Makinde, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.
He stated that it is now time for citizens in the state to critically scrutinise the promises and manifestos presented by political aspirants and their parties as the state enters another election cycle.

In his sermon, the Provost of the Cathedral, Very Rev’d Samuel Olawoyin urged Governor Makinde to remain focused, continue his good works, and trust in God amid both commendations and criticisms.
Very Reverend Olawoyin lauded Governor Makinde for consistently honouring his parents’ memory despite his demanding schedule, adding that the congregation should emulate the governor’s commitment to parental honour.
