By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 18: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has directed distribution centres across the country to remain prepared to ensure a reliable, regular and quality power supply to consumers during the Dashain festival.
Although industrial and commercial activities generally decline during Dashain, electricity consumption patterns change in households, religious sites, markets and public places. The NEA has, therefore, prioritised the safe and reliable operation of the electricity system during the festival.
NEA Managing Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha and Rajan Dhakal, chief of the Distribution and Customer Service Directorate, held a virtual meeting with the chiefs of provincial division offices and distribution centres on Friday, directing them to make all necessary preparations to prevent disruptions to electricity supply throughout the Dashain.
MD Shrestha instructed the concerned offices to keep technical teams on standby to carry out immediate repairs and restore services promptly in the event of any power disruption.
The office chiefs have also been directed to complete any pending inspection and maintenance of transmission lines and distribution systems immediately to minimise potential disruptions to electricity supply.
The authority has further instructed its offices to ensure that calls received through the 'No Light' service are answered promptly and that complaints related to electricity supply are addressed effectively during the festival.
The concerned offices have been told to mobilise technical teams immediately whenever a problem arises and restore services as soon as possible.
The NEA said that it has been continuously monitoring electricity demand and supply and taking necessary precautions to prevent problems in the power system.
According to the authority, arrangements have also been made to ensure the coordinated mobilisation of concerned offices and technical teams to maintain a regular power supply throughout the Dashain.
Meanwhile, the NEA has urged consumers to use electricity safely during the festive season.
It has advised households to check the condition of electrical appliances and wiring, avoid using substandard electrical materials, and refrain from attempting to repair electrical leaks or faulty wiring themselves. Instead, consumers have been advised to seek assistance from qualified technicians.
The NEA has also urged consumers to contact their nearest distribution centre or the concerned 'No Light' service if they experience electricity supply problems or wish to register complaints.
