Erari United are gearing up for a breakthrough season thanks to generous donations from Ombwayakandokoyo Fishing and DjMdesh.
The Otjozondjupa third-division league outfit received a major boost on Monday when the two sponsors stepped forward to fund new kits.
For a team that relies heavily on community support, this timely backing lets players focus on what they do best, winning games and enjoying the sport they love.
Ombwayakandokoyo Fishing donated tracksuits worth N$70 000 while DJMdesh sponsored soccer kits, soccer balls and training equipment valued at N$8 500.
Isaac Mbapaha, one of the shareholders of Ombwayakandokoyo Fishing, told
New Era Sport that sport has become a bread and requires assistance from all.
“From our company’s perspective, we
value sport development with the
community as it keeps our youth busy. It helps them not to be indulged in unwanted activities, like drug abuse, theft and many other crimes,” he said.
As part of their social responsibility, Mbapaha said investing in youth matters because it supports their livelihoods.
“We are aware of the talent in the area; some athletes support their family through sport. We will continue helping where we can, and we want to see this team going far in their endeavours,” he said among others.
Ronney Katupose of DJ Mdesh said his donation of sports kits and equipment was triggered by the culture of sharing with the community. “I know this team. I am a former footballer myself and seeing them struggle for sports gear prompted me to play my part and support them. Basically, I’m motivated by sharing the little I have with many,” he said.
Katupose believes his support for Erari United will play a critical role in the team’s efforts to reach the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Kavekuru Mbuere, one of the managers at Erari United, appreciated the sponsorship from both donors, saying it came at the right time as the team strives for the top-level league.
“This is a massive boost to the team; we are all excited about this assistance and looking forward to the new season,” he said, adding that the new gear will motivate the players to do well.
Mbuere added that the team has begun preparations for next season, and their primary aim is to clinch the current Otjozondjupa third division league and climb the ladder to premier league football.
Furthermore, the manager said the team is comprised mostly of school going players and sometimes hampered their ambitions during examinations.
