Jenna Ortega says she plans to take a break from television series after the conclusion of Wednesday, expressing a desire to explore film offers instead.
Ortega, who made her acting debut with the CBS sitcom Rob in 2012, has recently wrapped shooting for the third season of the Netflix series.
In a recent interview with Vogue magazine, the actress said she does not even check reviews of her films and is not concerned about box office numbers.
“I think after Wednesday, I’ll probably be off the TV for a while,” she said. “It (reviews and box office numbers) would send me into a psychosis of some sort because I don’t want it to become a numbers thing,” she added.
Ortega also said she has tried to distance herself from social media, citing the growing volume of artificial intelligence-generated content. “So much of what you see on there nowadays is just garbage AI and we all look at ourselves too much,” she added.
The first season of Wednesday premiered in 2022 and went on to become Netflix's most popular English-language series of all time, garnering over 252 million views, according to the platform's Netflix Tudum Top 10 rankings.
The series follows Wednesday Addams as she investigates a series of gruesome murders at Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for outcasts with supernatural abilities.
Apart from Ortega in the titular role, the show features Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane and Naomi J. Ogawa, among others.
The second season premiered on Netflix in 2025, following Wednesday’s return to Nevermore Academy after the chaotic events of the first semester. No longer merely a social outcast, she finds herself an overnight campus celebrity while confronting supernatural threats, hidden secrets and a deadly personal stalker.
Ortega reprised her role in the second season, which reached the No. 1 position in 91 countries following its release.
The upcoming third season will follow Wednesday Addams as she steps into her senior year at Nevermore Academy. The production wrapped on September 30, with Netflix announcing the development through a post on its X handle featuring Ortega.
The streaming platform has not yet announced a release date for the third season.
