The Soller Tunnel will be closed to traffic at night on weekdays, from 19 October to 19 November, to allow for the replacement of panels and maintenance work.
Traffic will not be permitted between 10.00 pm and 6.00 am, Monday to Thursday, but the tunnel will remain open at weekends, and emergency vehicles will be allowed through whilst the work is underway, the Council of Mallorca has stated in a press release.
The works are intended to ensure the safety of the infrastructure and involve replacing the signage panels. Specifically, new signage panels will be installed inside the tunnel to replace the existing ones; furthermore, in both Soller and Sa Mola, the tunnels and drainage systems will be cleaned to prevent flooding – tasks carried out every autumn before the heavy rains begin.
Annual inspections of the safety and ventilation systems will also be carried out. Meanwhile, on the nights of 18–19 and 19–20 October, the Son Vic tunnel will be closed for cleaning and maintenance work on the safety systems.
The closure on the 18th is expected to be shorter, whilst the one on the 19th will last all night. Whilst the closures are in place, all traffic will be diverted via Peguera. On these two nights, there will also be traffic disruptions (without closures) in the other tunnels on the MA-1 (Andratx motorway) and the MA-20 (ring road).
