The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Jinapor, has delivered the opening remarks at the 16th Meeting of ECOWAS Ministers in Charge of Energy.
In his address, he emphasised the importance of energy security, affordability, accessibility, and sustainability in advancing regional integration, economic growth, and sustainable development across West Africa.
He also called on his fellow Ministers to strengthen regional electricity trade by encouraging ECOWAS member states to trade more energy among themselves.
"A more energy-secure West Africa is a stronger, more integrated, and more prosperous West Africa," he said.
Prior to this meeting, Dr Jinapor received a delegation led by the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Burkina Faso’s Société Nationale Burkinabè d’Hydrocarbures (SONABHY), Mr. Forogo Patrice on a courtesy call.
Burkina Faso currently transports approximately 40% of its petroleum products through Ghana, up from 15% two years ago.
The delegation expressed their appreciation to the Government of Ghana for the continued support in facilitating the procurement and transit of petroleum products through the country and called for deeper collaboration to further strengthen this partnership.
"We explored ways to strengthen our collaboration in petroleum transportation and supply, deepen regional energy cooperation, and advance shared priorities for the mutual benefit of both countries," he said.
