Bayern Munich were pegged back at home by Premier League champions Arsenal, who struck late to earn a point. South Korean defender Kim Min-jae played only the first 45 minutes before being replaced.
Bayern drew 2-2 with Arsenal in the third round of the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League league phase at the Allianz Arena in Munich on the 21st. Bayern, on five points from one win and two draws, sat 14th, while Arsenal, still unbeaten this season, moved up to seventh with seven points from two wins and one draw.
Kim, who started for the second straight match, was replaced by Jonathan Tah at the end of the first half with the score level at 1-1. The change appeared tactical, but it marked a setback in his fight for a regular starting role. Bayern were already short-handed, with Michael Olise suspended after a red card in their previous match and Joshua Kimmich absent following a death in his family. Luis Diaz was also left out of the starting lineup.
Arsenal had problems of their own. Bukayo Saka, the joint-leading scorer on the team, dropped to the turf clutching his thigh in the 10th minute and immediately signaled to be substituted. His replacement, Eberechi Eze, made an instant impact, running onto a through ball from Martin Odegaard to open the scoring in the 25th minute.
Harry Kane was at the heart of Bayern's response. He split the midfield with a pass to set up Alphonso Davies' equalizer in the 35th minute, then won and converted a penalty in the 61st minute to put the hosts ahead.
The goal gave Kane 16 in 23 career appearances against Arsenal, reinforcing his record against the London club. It also extended his scoring run to 10 consecutive Champions League matches, moving him within one of the record 11 straight set by Cristiano Ronaldo, now at Al Nassr, during his time at Real Madrid.
Bayern could not hold on. In the 82nd minute, Declan Rice exchanged a one-two with Viktor Gyokeres and beat Manuel Neuer with a low shot.
Elsewhere, Club Brugge of Belgium, with Lee Han-beom watching from the bench, beat France's Lens 3-0 at home.
