SK Telecom (017670.KS) said on the 21st that it is launching voice phishing prevention activities with the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) ahead of Korea's Financial Day, a government-designated day observed annually on Oct. 29 to promote financial awareness.
The campaign combines SK Telecom's artificial intelligence and telecommunications technology with the FSS's expertise, aiming to help customers understand the latest voice phishing tactics and translate that knowledge into preventive action.
SK Telecom has been running a voice phishing prevention experience booth for spectators at SK Knights home games at Jamsil Students' Gymnasium since the 20th. Based on recent cases provided by the FSS, visitors can simulate fraud schemes and learn the preventive steps to take in suspicious situations.
On the 26th, the company will invite FSS experts to SKT Tower to train staff who operate its outreach service. The sessions will cover a range of cases and response measures, including impersonation of investigative agencies and financial firms, as well as AI-generated voice cloning of family members and acquaintances. The two organizations also plan to hold security training next month in Hapcheon County, South Gyeongsang Province, through the outreach service, covering ways to prevent financial fraud and use telecommunications safely. SK Telecom will additionally apply verified phone numbers provided by the FSS to its voice and text spam filtering systems, minimizing the erroneous blocking of legitimate calls from financial institutions while upgrading its voice phishing and scam detection capabilities.
Lee Hye-yeon, head of SK Telecom's Customer Value Innovation Office, said, "Ahead of Financial Day, we are expanding points of contact in the field so that customers can encounter and practice voice phishing prevention methods in their daily lives." Lee added, "Together with the Financial Supervisory Service, we will continue to expand activities that protect customers' safe daily lives, including education, hands-on experience and technology upgrades."
