Adobe has added interactive editing to its ChatGPT plug-in, allowing users to make detailed changes to images, designs and PDFs. The plug-in lets users work with Adobe product tools inside ChatGPT.
Users can now select a specific area of an image in the ChatGPT side panel, request a change and fine-tune the result with on-screen controls, Adobe said on Oct. 19. They can also open a PDF to edit text or highlight a particular passage.
The image and design editors, built on Photoshop and Adobe Express, let users select a specific object or mark an area with a brush. Controls such as sliders appear according to the type of edit, allowing adjustments to hue, saturation and contrast. If a user asks to change the color of a specific object, for example, color controls appear for the selected area.
Work done in the editor is synced with the conversation. Because changes made in the editor are reflected in the context of the chat, users do not need to describe what they did or re-upload content. That allows them to move back and forth between typing prompts and editing directly.
PDF editing uses the Acrobat tools included in the Adobe plug-in. Users can revise document content or add comments from the side panel. By opening a document in the side panel to edit text or highlight a passage, they can review, revise and annotate a document without moving to a separate workspace.
Users can also continue a conversation with ChatGPT based on content selected in a PDF. In reviewing a freelance contract, for instance, a user could highlight the paragraph on payment terms and then use the Adobe plug-in in ChatGPT to ask it to highlight other clauses related to payments or invoicing.
Adobe recently consolidated its creative and productivity tools into a single plug-in across ChatGPT, Claude and Slack. The company said this update extends that effort to upgrade editing and control features in step with the development of AI chatbot platforms.
