ISLAMABAD – Security concerns mount in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and federal government stepped up its response, sending 10 armoured vehicles to KP Police while launching a high-level committee to oversee governance after imposition of Governor’s Rule.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered boost to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police’s counterterrorism capabilities, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi handing over 10 newly acquired armoured personnel carriers (APCs) from Islamabad Police to the provincial force amid growing security concerns.
On the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, today I handed over 10 newly acquired Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) of Islamabad Police to KP Police to strengthen their ongoing counterterrorism operations.
In view of the prevailing security situation and rising terrorist incidents in KP, the Prime Minister directed their immediate transfer.
The fight against terrorism is our collective responsibility. The Federal Government stands firmly with KP Police and will extend every possible support to defeat terrorism and protect our people.— Mohsin Naqvi (@MohsinnaqviC42) October 12, 2026
The move comes as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faces persistent terrorist threats, prompting the federal government to extend additional operational support to provincial law enforcement agencies.
Naqvi said the premier had directed immediate deployment of the newly acquired vehicles to strengthen ongoing counterterrorism operations in the province. He said the decision was made in view of the prevailing security situation and the rising number of terrorist incidents in KP.

Naqvi underscored federal government’s commitment to standing by the provincial police, declaring that the fight against terrorism was a shared national responsibility. He pledged that Islamabad would provide every possible form of assistance to help defeat militancy and protect the public.
The transfer places additional armoured vehicles at the disposal of KP Police as security concerns remain high across the province.
Alongside security measures, the federal government has moved to establish a policy framework for provincial administration following the imposition of Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a 10-member committee tasked with providing policy guidelines to improve governance and review administrative affairs in the province. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is heading the committee, which includes Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
Other named members are Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, Amir Muqam, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. According to sources, the committee will also include one representative each from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).
The panel is expected to provide policy direction on governance and administrative matters in KP during the period of Governor’s Rule.
