Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has presented evidence against social media videos it describes as misleading about unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The ministry said some footage of protests against load-shedding and scenes from Syria had been shared with incorrect captions.
According to the ministry, these videos and images create a false impression of disorder in the province. It also alleged that Afghan and Indian accounts were amplifying the misleading narrative on social media.

The ministry described the activity as evidence of an organised propaganda effort with foreign backing. However, the claims and evidence presented by the ministry were not independently verified in the supplied report.
The statement comes amid discussions about imposing an emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The report said misleading videos continued circulating online after the announcement concerning the proposed measures.

◼️ Mischievous social media handles are circulating misleading claims of fabricated unrest in KP, using AI-generated visuals, old footage and unrelated videos.
◼️ The circulated material includes like factory fires, protests over load shedding and footages from Syria etc; all mis-captioned to manufacture an impression of chaos.
◼️ Afghan and Indian accounts are also amplifying this narrative in coord with vested political accounts, which further confirms a coordinated foreign driven propaganda.

Speaking to the media at Parliament House, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the party had the right to challenge the measures legally. He also claimed that authorities had arrested hundreds of PTI workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The dispute has intensified debate over security, political developments and the circulation of online content about the province. The information ministry has urged attention to misleading captions, while PTI has said it will pursue legal action against the proposed measures.
