KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has received 52 complaints over suspected water contamination in petrol.
A total of 39 petrol stations have been inspected, and 38 petrol samples sent to the Chemistry Department for testing.
Kedah state enforcement director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin told Buletin Utama TV3 that laboratory analysis was needed to identify contaminants, which could include other fuel types or chemicals.
He said the samples were collected at the source of supply rather than from workshops to minimise the risk of tampering or alteration.
The investigation requires coordination with KPDN headquarters because the fuel supply chain spans several states, he said.
Similar reports of suspected fuel contamination have emerged in other parts of the country, including Selangor, where seven petrol stations were inspected and 27 RON95 samples collected for analysis.
