Norway is hosting World Cup competitions in a range of sports governed by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) in the coming months.
A signal from the authorities about how they assess the visa rules in the current situation would have helped Norwegian sport, says Roger Finjord, chairman of the Norwegian Ski Association, to the news agency NTB.
Norway’s position remains - as does that of the Swedish Ski Association - that Russian athletes should not be allowed to compete.
At the same time, it is not up to sports to decide who gets a visa to sporting events in Norway. That is up to the authorities, and we have to deal with that, says Finjord.
The Swedish Ski Association and the Swedish Sports Confederation (RF) want the government to deny Russian and Belarusian skiers visas ahead of the World Championships in Falun in late February and early March.
