The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested two people over the murder of Jannatul Ferdous, 28, whose body was recovered stuffed in a sack from a canal in Chattogram's Karnaphuli upazila.
The matter was disclosed at a PBI Chattogram Metro press briefing yesterday (14 October).
According to PBI, Jannatul's second husband, Raja Mia, also known as Raju, planned the murder after she discovered he had concealed his first marriage. A sampan boat allegedly used in the killing has also been seized.
Jannat married Raja Mia, also known as Raju, on 4 September 2025, after divorcing her first husband. She later discovered that Raju had concealed his first marriage, leading to disputes between them, according to PBI.
Investigators said Raju planned the murder with his acquaintance Muslim Uddin. On 28 July, he took Jannatul on a sampan boat to the Shikalbaha canal, where she was allegedly strangled with a rope. Her hands and feet were tied, and her body was stuffed into a sack and dumped in the canal.
Sadarghat River Police recovered her body on 2 August.
Her mother, Sayra Khatun, subsequently filed a murder case with Karnaphuli Police Station.
PBI said the case was transferred to the agency on 6 October.
Investigators arrested Muslim Uddin, who had been hiding in Teknaf, and later arrested Shukur Ahmad, the brother of Raju's first wife. They also seized the sampan allegedly used in the killing.
On 14 October, Muslim Uddin gave a confessional statement in court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, PBI said. The investigation is ongoing.
