Gholam Hossein Darzi, Iran’s representative to the United Nations, has asked the UN secretary-general and the president of the Security Council to reject and condemn the US naval blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.
Iran’s IRNA news agency reported early Thursday, October 22, that Darzi raised the issue in a letter sent to the UN secretary-general and the Security Council.
According to the report, Iran’s ambassador urged the Security Council to compel the United States to stop its military aggression against Iran and end the naval blockade.
In the letter, Darzi stated that Iran would exercise its right to self-defense in response to any act of aggression.
The United States imposed the naval blockade in response to Tehran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
