Agartala, October 20: The mysterious deaths of two brothers in North Tripura’s Dharmanagar subdivision have triggered serious concerns, with their father filing a written complaint at the local police station alleging that the youths had received death threats shortly before the incident.
The deceased, identified as Subhadip Roy Chowdhury and Joydip Roy Chowdhury, were found dead in the Boyakandi area around 9:30 PM on Monday, October 19. They were residents of Ward No. 6 of West Dewanpasa village under Dharmanagar police station.
In his complaint, their father, Samiran Roy Chowdhury, named Bijon Das, a resident of Boyakandi, and some unidentified persons, expressing suspicion over their possible involvement in the deaths. However, the allegations are yet to be established through investigation.
According to the complaint, the brothers allegedly faced death threats around 11:30 PM on Sunday, October 18, while attempting to settle a local dispute near the highway adjoining Agrani Sangha in Dewanpasa and Badshah Tila in Boyakandi. The complaint specifically mentions Bijon Das, son of Randhir Chandra Das, as the person who allegedly threatened them.
The father further alleged that the brothers received multiple threatening phone calls from Monday morning onwards. Their bodies were subsequently recovered from Boyakandi that night, intensifying suspicions surrounding the circumstances of their deaths.
Meanwhile, local sources claimed that the dispute was linked to financial transactions. Reports also suggested that Bijon Das had allegedly attempted to launch a knife attack on Sunday night and detained a person identified as Bibek Bardhan, who was later rescued by family members and acquaintances.
Police in North Tripura have taken the complaint seriously and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Bijon Das is currently undergoing treatment at Dharmanagar District Hospital and is reportedly under police surveillance.
The investigation is expected to establish the sequence of events and determine whether the alleged threats were connected to the deaths of the two brothers.
