Aduda faults FKF over breach of rules as Premier League finally starts

"I think these are some of the mistakes that the current leadership of FKF are perennially making. Rule 2.3.1 expressly gives the authority to the National Executive Committee. The regulations are very explicit that it is the NEC which shall determine the dates, commencement and end of the season of all FKF Leagues and competitions,” Aduda said.

Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) General Secretary Lordvick Aduda accused the federation of breaking its own rules by starting the 2026/27 Premier League without the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Speaking on Citizen TV's Sporty Monday, Aduda said the 2019 FKF Rules and Regulations leave no room for doubt on the mandate of the NEC when it comes to matters concerning the commencement and ending of the league.

Aduda further posed important questions that the federation had not yet answered: when does the league end?

With no NEC resolution on the calendar, there is no approved closing date on record.

He further pointed to Rule 2.3.3, which gives the NEC the power to suspend or extend the league. That authority, he said, can only be exercised at a properly convened NEC meeting, one that is yet to take place.

"Somebody somewhere came up and drew the fixtures and authorised the league to commence, but what does the regulation say? Rule 2.3.3, which gives the NEC power over the calendar once a season is under way. The NEC also has the authority to either suspend or extend the league. This can only happen in a structured NEC meeting which is yet to take place," Aduda further stated.

Aduda also faulted the administration for lack of oversight in reconciling the FKF Rulebook that contains the rules and regulations and the FKF Constitution citing lack of cognisance.

The criticism lands at a sensitive time. The season began after a two-month delay caused by court battles over promotion and relegation, and clubs had insisted that due process be followed. It also feeds into a wider dispute, with seven NEC members having earlier objected that the committee was being treated as a rubber-stamp organ.

With the league already underway, the coming NEC meeting on Wednesday is pivotal. It must either ratify a calendar already in motion or leave the federation exposed to challenges.
