This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Super Bowl-winning coach and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Senior football consultant Bruce Arians.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Arians discussed his work with Novartis on its "Relax, it's a Blood Test" prostate cancer screening campaign commercial. He recalled his tenure on the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff.
"Yeah, it was fantastic (commercial). It was a great two days of shooting, and what a great message, the way we put it together," said Arians. "I think Novartis did a fantastic job with it. And I know I thought we should have won the award, but Bud Light left theirs out too early, man. We should have won the award for the best commercial. I thought."
In 1988, Arians started his NFL career as a running backs coach for the Chiefs under head coach Marty Schottenheimer. He remembers working alongside a legendary crew of coaches during his tenure in Kansas City.
"Yeah, it was a fantastic coaching staff," said Arians, "Marty Schottenheimer was the head coach, and then Tony Dungy, Bill Cowher, Tom Pratt on defense, and Herm Herm Edwards took Tony's place. On offense, I, Joe Pendry, and Howard Mudd, plus Jim Erkenbeck, made up the core, and it was a great coaching staff. But Christian Okoye was very worried, two biggest backs I've ever coached, and were the fastest. That was the craziest thing, but yeah, we ran the ball as good as anybody."
