It gave me goosebumps. It’s a nice story that continued today in a way. It’s wonderful to see him play, Gais coach Fredrik Holmberg told TV4.
Lundgren tore his Achilles tendon during the warm-up before the Allsvenskan season opener in April. Just under a week earlier, in the playoff match against Poland, he had set up Viktor Gyökeres for the goal that took Sweden to the World Cup.
Now Lundgren is back in action. In the 80th minute of Sunday’s Gothenburg derby, the 31-year-old was substituted on to a huge cheer at Gamla Ullevi.
Eight minutes earlier, IFK Göteborg’s Sam Larsson had equalised at 1-1 after Gais goalkeeper Mergim Krasniqi fumbled the ball.
Nikola Vasic gave Gais the lead in the first half from the penalty spot.
IFK Göteborg are ninth in the Allsvenskan with 37 points. Gais are 11th with 31 points.
