Egypt will host the annual meetings of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) from 1 to 5 November 2026, bringing together heads of African tax administrations and representatives of regional and international organisations working on taxation.
The Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA), which is organising the event on Egypt’s behalf, said this year’s meetings will be held under the theme “Boosting Revenues: Africa’s Path to Self-Financed Development.” The theme reflects growing focus on strengthening African countries’ ability to mobilise domestic resources and secure more sustainable financing for their development plans.
ETA Commissioner Rasha Abdel Aal said Egypt’s hosting of the meetings follows directives from Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk to strengthen tax cooperation at the African and international levels and to expand the exchange of expertise and successful practices among tax administrations. She said this would help develop tax administration and raise the efficiency of its staff as tax systems worldwide change rapidly.
Abdel Aal said the event reflects Egypt’s active role in supporting cooperation and joint action among African countries, particularly as global economic and financial challenges push governments to strengthen domestic resource mobilisation, modernise their tax systems, and make greater use of technology and digital solutions.
She added that the ETA places great importance on cooperation with African tax administrations, alongside its ongoing efforts to modernise Egypt’s own tax system. These efforts, she said, aim to simplify procedures, expand digital services, improve the quality of services provided to taxpayers, enhance transparency and tax justice, and build a relationship of trust and partnership with the business community.
According to Abdel Aal, the meetings will serve as a key African platform for dialogue on priority tax issues. Topics on the agenda include domestic resource mobilisation, international tax cooperation, the modernisation of tax administrations, institutional and human capacity building, the use of technology and data, and the challenges posed by global economic shifts and the digital economy.
The commissioner welcomed the participating delegations and affirmed the ETA’s commitment to providing all necessary support to ensure the meetings succeed. She said she hopes the meetings will produce practical outcomes and recommendations that deepen cooperation among African tax administrations and strengthen the continent’s capacity to sustainably mobilise its resources and finance its development goals.
