PETALING JAYA: Social media influencer Eric See-To, who uses the pen name "Lim Sian See", was summoned to the Brickfields police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur early today to have his statement recorded over a social media post.
According to a source, See-To was then taken to the Dang Wangi station at 12.45am, before the case was referred to Bukit Aman, Bernama reported. The source added that See-To was later released on police bail.
See-To, posting as Lim Sian See, had reportedly questioned the use of the word 'lighad' in Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's speech when tabling the 2027 budget on Friday.
In a separate post on Saturday, he said his comment on the term was made in response to a graphic of a list of words posted by Sinar Harian. He said he had believed the word was an Arabic word commonly used to mean "the future" or "the days ahead.
However, the word is also used in a Quranic verse referring to the hereafter.
See-To said his comment had been incorporated into someone else's post, and that he had not known of the Quranic reference.
