A firefighter who went into cardiac arrest while battling a factory fire in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, on the 16th has died.
Police said on the 17th that the firefighter in their 40s, identified only as A, died while receiving treatment at a hospital after being taken there from the blaze at a metal injection molding and printing plant in Nae-dong, Ojeong-gu, Bucheon. Another firefighter in their 40s was critically injured in the fire.
The two had been among the first responders to reach the scene and were working to put out the fire, according to authorities. Four other firefighters were taken to hospitals with symptoms of heat exhaustion, and two plant workers were treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries, bringing the total number of people hurt to eight.
Police, fire authorities and other related agencies are conducting a joint forensic examination at the site of the fire.
