Addis Ababa, October 13, 2026 (FMC) — Iran has proposed establishing an international network of photonics laboratories among BRICS member states to expand researchers’ access to specialized equipment, strengthen scientific cooperation, and promote joint technological and industrial projects, TV BRICS reported, citing its Iranian media partner, The Tehran Times.
The proposed network would enable researchers from BRICS countries to access laboratory equipment and specialized services across member states, making more effective use of existing scientific infrastructure.
It would also facilitate coordination of capabilities in fabrication, characterization, testing, calibration, and other technical services essential to photonics research.
Iran has further proposed strengthening connections among researchers and scientific institutions through exchanges of professors, researchers, and students. The initiative would focus on a limited number of specific, measurable objectives, supported by regular meetings and dedicated action plans.
In a related development, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced the implementation of the National Document on Quantum Science and Technology in 2025.
According to Abdolhassan Bahrami, an official with Iran’s Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-based Economy, the document establishes national objectives, assessment indicators, strategies, and mechanisms for implementation and monitoring.
It serves as a roadmap for research, technological development, and the commercialization of quantum technologies.
As part of the implementation process, Iran is establishing a quantum science and technology headquarters to coordinate relevant organizations, prepare an implementation roadmap, develop regulations, and monitor national and international developments in the field.
