Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has dropped its lawsuit seeking to seize the assets of International Chess Federation (FIDE) President Timur Turlov for the Russian state.
Deputy Prosecutor General Igor Tkachev filed a motion to withdraw the lawsuit with Moscow’s Tverskoy District Court, which was hearing the case.
The Prosecutor General’s Office filed the lawsuit in early October against Turlov, a Kazakhstani businessman, and Freedom Finance, the holding company he founded. Sources cited by Kommersant linked the lawsuit to Turlov’s donations to humanitarian projects in Ukraine.
The lawsuit was filed shortly after Turlov was elected president of FIDE. He succeeded former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, who had been placed under EU sanctions.
