With a 2-4 record, the idea that the Dallas Cowboys could completely change their approach ahead of the NFL trade deadline is beginning to gain traction. Instead of making the aggressive moves that have traditionally defined the franchise, some believe Dallas should shift into seller mode before November 10 to recover some of the draft capital it has spent in recent moves.

The Cowboys are projected to have only four picks in the 2027 NFL Draft and have already surrendered a second-round selection in 2028. Because of that, some analysts have suggested a potential partial sell-off of key pieces, with George Pickens emerging as one of the names to watch, especially since Dallas has not played like the championship contender it expected to be.
However, that scenario does not appear to be part of the organization’s plans. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not ready to give up on the season, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer backed that mindset when he was asked Thursday at The Star whether the team should stop pursuing moves before the deadline.
“No. 1, Jerry is never afraid to make moves. And No. 2, no, we’ve got a lot of football left. And we’re excited about winning a big game in Philadelphia,” Schottenheimer said.
Cowboys rule out becoming sellers at the trade deadline
Despite their difficult start, Dallas remains in the playoff race, largely because of the situation in a battered NFC East. Two starting quarterbacks in the division have already been ruled out for the remainder of the season, while another, Jayden Daniels, has struggled after suffering a dislocated elbow.
As long as that opportunity remains, the Cowboys do not appear willing to abandon the season before the trade deadline.
Jones was asked during the league meetings in New York about his approach heading into the deadline and left the door open for Dallas to be active if the right opportunity presents itself.
“I’ll be real clear, I could see being active at the trade deadline if it was something that could help the team this year,” Jerry Jones said.
When reporter Albert Breer directly asked Jones if he could envision Dallas acting as sellers before the deadline, the Cowboys owner gave a blunt response:
“No.”
With the pressure mounting and a crucial matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles approaching, the Cowboys will have little margin for error to prove they can still compete — or risk being forced to reconsider their plans before the trade deadline.
