Arsenal have received a mixed fitness update ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League showdown against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, with William Saliba among the players set to miss the crucial encounter, per @iMiaSanMia.
The French defender is unavailable, dealing a potential blow to Mikel Arteta’s defensive plans against a Bayern side that has been scoring freely this season. Saliba’s absence could be particularly significant against Harry Kane, whose movement, physicality, and ability to link up with Bayern’s attacking players make him a difficult opponent to contain.
Arsenal will also be without Christos Tzolis, further reducing their available options for the trip to Munich.
Meanwhile, defender Piero Hincapié trained individually rather than joining the full squad. The more encouraging news for Arteta is that the rest of the squad is available. That gives Arsenal a strong pool of players to choose from for a match that could have major implications for their Champions League campaign.
Bayern will present a formidable challenge at home, particularly with their attacking quality and the intensity Vincent Kompany demands from his side. Arsenal will need to be organized defensively, competitive in midfield, and clinical when opportunities arise if they want to leave Munich with a positive result.
Saliba’s absence could give Bayern Munich an opportunity to exploit Arsenal’s defensive structure, but Arteta still has the personnel to make this a fiercely contested encounter.
