The St. Thomas men’s hockey team was again stymied by Minnesota State goaltender Lassi Lehti in a 2-0 loss to the Mavericks on Saturday night in Mankato.
One night after allowing the Tommies just one goal on 52 shots faced, the MSU netminder needed 30 saves to register a shutout victory against the visitors in the NCHC matchup.
The Mavericks got the only goal they needed on an even-strength tally by Sawyer Scholl at the 16:53 mark of the opening period. Alex Zetterberg added one more for MSU on an empty net at 18:50 of the final frame.
Before being pulled for the extra attacker, St. Thomas netminder William Ingemann made 23 saves to take the hard-luck loss.
With the loss, the Tommies fell to 1-3 on the season, while the Mavericks improved to 2-4. St. Thomas heads back out on the road next week with a trip to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami on both Friday and Saturday night.
