Sierra Leone international Augustus Kargbo has expressed heartfelt appreciation to Blackburn Rovers supporters for the warm reception he received following his return to competitive football after nearly a year on the sidelines.
The 27-year-old forward, who endured a difficult period battling recurring muscle injuries, described the support from fans as an unforgettable experience, saying their encouragement had helped him through a challenging stage of his career.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Kargbo praised Blackburn fans for faithfully standing by him despite his prolonged absence from the pitch.
“The fans are special, and they’ve always made me feel special. They’ve supported me from my first day, they’ve sung my name, and it’s been really good to be welcomed that way and to be appreciated.”
The Leone Stars attacker described the feeling of returning to action after such a lengthy absence as “amazing.”
Kargbo recently returned to competitive action for Blackburn Rovers after spending almost 12 months recovering from a series of injuries, including a thigh tear and a hamstring setback suffered during pre-season.
His comeback came as a substitute against Cardiff City, marking an important milestone in his recovery.
Despite his extended absence, the Sierra Leonean forward quickly demonstrated the pace and attacking threat that have characterised his playing style.
During the closing stages of the match, Kargbo’s direct running helped Blackburn win a penalty, offering an encouraging indication of the impact he could make as he regains full fitness.
His return provides an additional attacking option for Blackburn as the club continues its Championship campaign.
Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray welcomed Kargbo’s return, highlighting the winger’s speed and ability to trouble opposing defenders.
“On the days we are finding it tough, his pace can damage most teams. I am happy that he is back for us,” Mowbray said.
The manager also acknowledged the physical demands facing a player returning from such a lengthy injury absence.
According to Mowbray, Kargbo was “panting pretty hard towards the end” of his appearance, an indication that the forward still needs time to rebuild his match fitness.
Nevertheless, his performance offered encouragement as Blackburn look to gradually reintegrate him into competitive action.
Having overcome a frustrating period of rehabilitation and injury setbacks, Kargbo is now focused on rebuilding his confidence, improving his fitness and contributing to Blackburn’s performances.
His appreciation for the supporters reflects the importance of their encouragement throughout his recovery.
While his immediate priority remains staying healthy and gradually returning to full match fitness, the Sierra Leonean attacker will be hoping to make a lasting impact during the remainder of the Championship season.
For Kargbo, the warm reception from Blackburn fans has made his comeback even more meaningful, providing renewed motivation as he seeks to put his injury struggles behind him.
