A group of Opposition MPs has called for the appointment of a special parliamentary select committee to ensure justice for tusker ‘Kawanthissa’.
The proposal, which is to be submitted to the Speaker, was signed today (Oct. 21) at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.
Through the proposal, the MPs have requested the appointment of a special parliamentary select committee to uncover the truth behind the death of Kawanthissa, a tusker regarded as part of Sri Lanka’s national natural heritage, examine whether all parties involved in the incident have properly fulfilled their responsibilities, and ensure justice for the tusker.
