It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for an Asos collaboration, but throw Adidas Originals into the mix and you’ve definitely got my attention.
This week adidas Originals and Asos launch Collection 05, which takes a distinctly different approach to previous collections which have featured polka dots, playful lace trims and have come in a palette of pastels and brights.
Collection 05 is very much a winter offering with lots of leather and heavier wool fabrics, inspired by maximalist sports nostalgia, think retro sportswear codes, exaggerated proportions, elevated fabrications and considered detail. Silhouettes are more exaggerated too with peplum shapes, oversized funnel necks and retro panelling. Of course there are half-zips and full track-inspired looks which nod to the brand’s sporting archive, as well as traditional checks and muted animal prints and unexpected styling details, and rich textures and elevated fabrics.
Rich textures and elevated fabrics define the collection, with leather jackets and track shorts, checks, sheened nylon and satin tops which bring depth, glamour and contrast to standout styles.
Vanessa Spence, Executive Vice President, Brand and Creative at ASOS, explains: “For Collection 05, we wanted to give people the confidence to be bolder with sportswear. We’ve pushed the contrast between sport and glamour through exaggerated proportions, rich textures and unexpected details, creating pieces with attitude that everyone can style and make their own.”

As well as the black leather set, other highlights include a classic adidas 3-Stripe track set in a tonal brown update, finished with ornate embellishment and a navy satin long sleeve top with neon green stripes and asymmetric button fastening which is the perfect day-to-night style.
The autumnal palette of black, deep brown, neutrals and rust is lifted with blue, orange and yellow accents is seen best in the long sleeve high neck striped top which is a hero piece and feels distinctly ‘80s.
Neutral snakeskin and dark-toned zebra prints bring a moodier, after-dark energy that is perfect worn together or paired with the seasonal palette of chocolate, espresso and caramel while the heavy funnel-neck wool coat looks great with everything from denim to tailoring and of course sportswear, and will live on in your wardrobe for years to come.
So, after spending far too long scrolling through the collection (all in the name of research, of course!), these are the pieces I’d be adding straight to my basket and loving for seasons to come.
adidas Originals x Asos leather peplum jacket
This might be my favourite piece in the whole collection as it’s so elevated and polished. The leather is butter soft and the shape makes a real statement but in a cool, understated way. It looks really standout with the matching leather shorts but I’d wear it with smart black trousers, flat pumps or retro sneakers and a checked shirt tied at the waist.
adidas Originals x Asos wool funnel-neck coat
An ankle-grazing coat is the ultimate throw-it-over-everything style and this chic mid-grey style with a statement funnel neck and side stripe details has just enough interest to make a statement while still feeling classic and timeless. As a result it works over everything, from a chunky knit and jeans to a suit or sporty separates.
adidas Originals x Asos striped top
This top is a real feel-good piece, it’s super soft and is fun and feels different without trying too hard – the sort of piece you’ll keep reaching for when you don’t know what to wear. I’d wear it with a mini skirt, socks, loafers and a trench.
adidas Originals x Asos snakeprint jacket
One thing fashion can’t get enough of right now is a retro track jacket, and this one absolutely delivers. The shape is perfect and the snake print makes it feel that little bit more elevated. It feels vintage and sporty in the very best way. Throw it over barrel-leg jeans, wear it with the matching shorts or even layer it over a silky slip dress if you fancy leaning into that sporty-meets-pretty contrast.
adidas Originals x Asos tie detail trousers
I know what you’re thinking… balloon trousers? Stick with me. These aren’t the intimidating kind. They somehow manage to feel sporty, tailored and fashionable all at once. The exaggerated silhouette is exactly the sort of shape I’ve been spotting all over Fashion Week street style, and I love that they feel like a fresh alternative to the wide-leg jeans we’ve all been living in. I’d wear these with a baby t-shirt and cardigan and let the trousers do all the talking.
