A former Army personnel and his friend were arrested by Kannamangalam police near Arani town in Tiruvannamalai on Tuesday for slapping a woman sub-inspector inside a police station.
The arrested persons were identified as S. Vasu (42), a resident of Kil Pallipattu village in Vellore, and his friend B. Kumaraguru (28), a cab driver. Initial inquiry revealed that Vasu served in the army before he voluntarily retired from the service a few months ago. He returned to his native village to do farming.
Police said that along with his friend Kumaraguru, Vasu reportedly blocked a few government buses near the toll plaza at Vallam village on Chittoor – Cuddalore Road in an inebriated condition. Police said the bus crew alerted Kannamangalam police, who secured the duo from the spot.
During an inquiry at the police station by a team of police personnel including sub-inspector S. Kavitha, Vasu slapped the sub-inspector. Police said that other police personnel overpowered him. A case was registered. Later, they were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is underway.
