Kathmandu, October 15
A steady stream of people is leaving Kathmandu Valley to celebrate Dashain with their families. Bus terminals and transport hubs in New Bus Park, Kalanki, Koteshwor, Balaju and Balkhu have grown busier as people head home for the festival.
Although the excitement of Dashain is evident among travellers returning home with children and luggage, many are also concerned about the long and arduous journey ahead.
Some have reserved vehicles, while others have purchased tickets for public transport. Others are still searching for vehicles to take them to their destinations. Bus parks are crowded with people buying tickets, boarding buses and bidding farewell to relatives.
As the number of people travelling home for Dashain increases, congestion has grown on roads and around bus terminals. Buses are filling up, and crowded vehicles are leaving the valley through major junctions, including Kalanki.
The growing festive rush has brought a combination of celebration and travel-related activity to Kathmandu’s roads, intersections and bus parks.
Dashain tika falls on October 21 this year, while Phulpati is on October 17. Many people are preparing to reach their hometowns in time for Phulpati, adding to the rush to leave the valley.
