Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Benin (UNIBEN) Branch, have been directed to resume full academic services after deciding to suspend their withdrawal of labour.
According to an official statement signed by Branch Chairman Enaruna Edosa and Secretary L. O. Aimiyekagbon, the Congress resolved to end the industrial action that began on 9 October 2026.
The union’s National Executive Council (NEC) formally approved the suspension. The decision followed the University Administration’s complete payment of staff emoluments for September 2026. “This directive is as a result of Congress’s decision to suspend the action of withdrawal of services… having secured approval of its National Leadership (ASUU NEC).
The suspension was necessitated by the University Administration’s full payment of the emoluments of September 2026,” the statement read. Academic staff have been instructed to resume all academic activities with immediate effect.
The branch leadership thanked members for their solidarity throughout the brief industrial action. The development is expected to restore normal academic operations at the University of Benin after the short disruption.
