The Gobaru-Yonni Bridge in Pujehun, a vital crossing over the Wanjei River connecting several farming communities, is reportedly facing structural risks following the alleged theft of its iron support components.
The damage has raised concerns among local stakeholders and residents over the safety of commuters, farmers and traders who depend on the bridge for transportation and access to markets.
Despite its modest size, the bridge serves as an important link for communities in the area, enabling farmers to transport agricultural produce and supporting daily commercial activities.
According to reports, the alleged theft came to light after a community member alerted local leaders about a young man identified as Adamin, who was reportedly seen carrying iron components away from the bridge late at night. The stolen materials were allegedly hidden at his residence before being sold.
Following the report, local stakeholder Siaka Massaquoi informed Gobaru Town Chief Tucker, who subsequently referred the matter to Regent Chief Alhaji Ibrahim Koroma of the chiefdom.
When summoned by traditional authorities for questioning, the suspect reportedly denied the allegations. However, tensions allegedly escalated when he attempted to physically attack Regent Chief Koroma, Town Chief Tucker and other stakeholders present.

The suspect was subsequently restrained and handed over to the police at Pujehun Police Station, where he is reportedly in custody as investigations continue.
Following the incident, community stakeholders have appealed to local youths to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving the removal or tampering with the bridge’s structural components.
They have also called on security personnel to strengthen patrols to prevent further damage and protect the bridge, which remains an important transportation link for surrounding communities.
