Troy Aikman, Joe Buck Nearly Came to Blows Before Bills-Rams ‘MNF’ Game

When news broke that there was brewing tension between ESPN “Monday Night Football” broadcasters Troy Aikman and Joe Buck, it turns out fans didn’t have the full picture.

Initial reports indicated Aikman was disgruntled that Buck had just signed a new $100 million contract with the network, yet there had been no talks between himself and ESPN with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

But new details have emerged on exactly what happened between the two — and the situation is much more volatile than initially thought.

According to a report from InTouch, the two popular sportscasters nearly got into a physical fight during the Buffalo Bills-Los Angeles Rams “Monday Night Football” game 10 days ago.

“It nearly got physical off air,” a source told In Touch. “They were very close from coming to blows.

“… There’s real hatred between them now. It’s never been this toxic. They were closer than friends. They were like brothers.”

Aikman and Buck have worked together for nearly two decades. By all accounts they’ve built a strong friendship, but when Buck signed his new deal and Aikman found out like everyone else did — after it was announced on social media — their relationship started to fracture.

“Joe signed his new deal and never said a word to Troy — not one word,” the source continued. “They’ve been partners for more than 20 years. In this business, when something like that is happening, the bosses and your partner sit you down and tell you. That’s standard practice. Nobody did that for Troy.

“People who’ve worked closely with both of them say they’ve never seen a betrayal like it. It’s the biggest betrayal anyone in the industry can remember.”

Aikman has been asked since about his future with ESPN and if he’ll sign a new deal, to which he’s hinted he’ll test broadcasting free agency after his ESPN contract ends after the Super Bowl.
