ROBERTS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Liberia, October 20, 2026- Morocco has delivered military vehicles and supplies to Liberia as part of an expanding defense cooperation agreement, with approximately 140 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) expected to travel to Morocco for specialized commando training.
A Moroccan C-130 military cargo aircraft landed at Roberts International Airport on Monday, October 19, marking the first of two scheduled flights expected to transport military equipment and supplies to Liberia between October 19 and 22.
The aircraft are also expected to facilitate the transportation of the AFL soldiers to Morocco for specialized military training as both countries move to strengthen their defense partnership.
The operation forms part of a military cooperation agreement signed by Liberia and Morocco in October 2025 to enhance military training, technical assistance, and healthcare cooperation.
The agreement was signed in Rabat on October 21, 2025, by Moroccan officials and Liberia’s Defense Minister, Géraldine Janet George-Johnson, establishing a framework for broader cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces.
Implementation of the agreement gained momentum in September 2026 when AFL Chief of Staff Major General Davidson Fayiah Forleh visited Morocco for high-level discussions with Moroccan military authorities.
During the visit, the two sides advanced plans for military support and capacity-building, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities of the Liberian military.
The partnership covers several areas, including military equipment, specialized training, technical assistance, maritime security, and healthcare services for military personnel.
Beyond the delivery of vehicles and other supplies, Morocco is also assisting Liberia’s efforts to develop a military air wing, including training opportunities for pilots and technical personnel.
The cooperation further extends to maritime security, with AFL delegations engaging Moroccan naval authorities and military academies on initiatives intended to strengthen the operational capacity of the Liberia Coast Guard.
In military healthcare, the partnership includes cooperation with Mohammed V Military Hospital, medical personnel exchanges, and specialized medical referrals through the AFL Medical Command.
The delivery of military supplies and the planned commando training represent significant steps toward translating the 2025 defense agreement into practical support for Liberia’s armed forces.
The initiative is expected to contribute to professional military development, improve operational readiness, and strengthen defense ties between Liberia and Morocco.
