Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oborevwori gave the charge on Thursday in Asaba during the inauguration of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, where he unveiled “MORE Plus” as the theme of his re-election campaign.
He described membership of the council as a call to service, urging members to work with unity, discipline and dedication to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu, himself and other APC candidates.
The governor urged campaign coordinators at the local government and ward levels to engage voters directly through door-to-door campaigns, rather than relying solely on rallies and political meetings.
He said the party should reach market women, youths, workers, farmers and traders, while communicating its achievements to the electorate.
“Our achievements must speak for us, but we must also be prepared to explain them convincingly,” Oborevwori said, urging members to highlight the impact of government policies.
He cited the Federal Government’s policies and his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which focuses on infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment and security.
“Political activities will not distract our administration from delivering on its promises to the people. I also urge politicians and their supporters to maintain peace and avoid hate speech throughout the campaign,” Oborevwori said.
Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme commended Oborevwori for aligning the state with the Federal Government and urged party members to publicise Tinubu’s policies on local government autonomy, education funding, security, electricity and road infrastructure.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, defended Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying the difficult decisions were intended to address underlying economic challenges, including the cost of fuel subsidies.
Delta APC Chairman, Solomon Arenyeka, said the council’s inauguration demonstrated the party’s readiness for the 2027 elections. He urged members to mobilise voters peacefully and communicate the achievements of APC-led governments.
Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, speaking for Delta North, said expectations were high following the state’s mass defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in April 2025. He urged the council to reach voters directly.
Former APC National Woman Leader, Stella Okotete, called on women to intensify mobilisation, setting a target of at least 75 per cent of votes for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
The campaign council is chaired by Oborevwori, with Senator James Manager as Director-General and Chiedu Ebie as Deputy Director-General. Manager pledged to work with party leaders and members to coordinate grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
