A group of Pakistani Shia scholars and Hazara figures in Quetta have expressed concern over forced home evictions, land seizures, and the closure of a religious school and a university in Afghanistan during a meeting with the Taliban’s consul general.
The Shia scholars met with Mawlawi Fazl-ul-Haq Shakir, the Taliban’s consul general in Quetta, on Monday, October 19, and conveyed the Hazara community’s concerns about these issues.
The meeting addressed the forced eviction of residents from the Nawabad area of Ghazni, the Sabz Township, also known as Nabi Zada Township, and properties and shops in Jebrael, Herat.
Representatives of the Shia scholars also discussed seized lands and submitted a written protest to the Taliban’s consul general.
During the meeting, the Taliban’s consul general in Quetta said he would convey the concerns and demands raised to Taliban officials in Kabul.
The meeting comes amid reports that the Taliban have declared several plots of land to be state-owned in recent months, alongside multiple reports of the group taking control of people’s land.
