(ANSA) - ROME, 16 OTT - Fuelled by soaring energy prices, Italy's annual inflation rate hit a three-year high of 4.2% in September, up from 3.3% in August, Istat said on Friday, confirming the preliminary estimate it gave at the end of last month.
"The acceleration of inflation was mainly due to the dynamics of prices of regulated energy products (from +18.6% to +25.8%), of non-regulated energy products (from +17.0% to +22.5%), of unprocessed food (from +3.8% to +5.5%), of services related to recreation, including repair and personal care (from +2.6% to +2.9%) and of services related to transport (from +0.8% to +1.6%)," the national statistics agency said.
Istat said its consumer price index was up 0.7% in month-on-month terms.
It said its 'shopping trolley' index of the prices of food, household goods, and personal care products rose by 1.5% in year-on-year terms, up from 0.9% in August. (ANSA).
